Police crack down on DWI drivers

Police arrest seven for DWI in 24 hours

Plainville Police had a busy night Dec. 19 continuing their fight against drunk drivers by making seven arrests for driving while intoxicated in 24 hours. Police conducted a checkpoint on New Britain Avenue, Route 372, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., and had additional patrols on the streets. In addition to the seven DWI arrests, four operators were charged with failure to wear a seatbelt.

Plainville Police will be out in strength during the Christmas and New Year's holidays, stepping up patrols throughout the town. "DWI enforcement remains one of the department's highest priorities. We stand committed to removing intoxicated drivers from our streets," said Police Sgt. Charles Smedick.

The following is a listing of those arrested: Jeffrey Lavigne, 26, of Bristol, driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle under suspension, and failure to have stop lamps; Jose F. Moura, 36, of Plainville, driving while intoxicated; Luis E. Cruz, 30, of Plainville, driving while intoxicated; Richard Franco Jr., 28, Plainville, driving while intoxicated, interfering with police, engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, and failure to drive right; Randy Nyborg, 51, of Plainville, driving while intoxicated, failure to signal turn, failure to drive right, and disobeying an officer's signal; David Dittman, 29, of Unionville, driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle under suspension, failure to illuminate rear registration plate; and Pathom Ratsombath, no age given, of New Britain, driving while intoxicated.
