Route 10 reopens after crash

A woman driving on Route 10, known as East Street, in Plainville got a big surprise Wednesday afternoon when a section of an utility pole came crashing down on the hood of her car and then she drove over the pole.

"She was very lucky it didn't go through her windshield," said Sgt. Charles Smedick, head of the Plainville Police Traffic Division.

Missing man found safe in Hartford

A Bosnian visitor, who was missing from his daughter's home in Plainville for nearly 24 hours, was located safe and sound Monday afternoon in Hartford. Serif Lugonja, 55, who had gone for a walk Sunday at about 1 p.m. and was reported missing by his son-in-law at about 8 p.m., was found at a family member's home Tuesday, according to Plainville Police Sgt. Tim Mullaney.

Town settles in jail suicide case

Plainville officials have agreed to pay $57,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by the family of a man who hanged himself while in police custody in 2002.

Police say that 51-year-old John P. Rasmus was arrested Dec. 15, 2002 on third-degree assault and disorderly conduct charges.

High school in temporary lock down last Friday

Southington police arrested Christopher Hauschild, 25, of 26 Darling St., Southington, in connection with an incident that occurred May 1 on Southington High School property. The school was placed in temporary, precautionary code lock down until police apprehended the suspect at his home after he fled school property.

Police charge two 15-year-olds in connection with threat

Plainville police charged two 15-year-old boys with breach of peace Thursday and they were suspended from Plainville High School after they made a threat to take violent action against others.

No flooding this winter, police say

Despite snow melt and intense rain this week, Plainville streets have managed to stay flood-free, said Plainville Police Capt. Peter Costanzo. "It's been an OK winter so far," he said.

New Year's Eve quiet, police say

New Year's Eve in Plainville was "very quiet" possibly because most of the bars and restaurants were closed by 10 p.m., said Sgt. Charles Smedick, head of the Plainville Police Traffic Division.

No DUI arrests were made New Year's Eve, nor were there any motor vehicle accidents, Smedick said.
